Buckle in.

Sandra Day O'Connor announces retirement.

On the plus side: No more "Sandy Says" laws.

On the minus side: Do I even need to mention it?

Update: Please check out Bill Scher's post about this from a couple of months ago:

Keep in mind that in the first 24 hours after any nomination, the whole ballgame will be whether or not the GOP can successfully portray the pick as a “mainstream conservative.”

It will be our job in those 24 hours – on the blogs, on talk radio, in letters to the editor -- to argue that the views of him or her are far too extreme and harmful to Americans to merit a lifetime appointment.

Bill has some ideas about how to do that, and suggests that we begin researching the potential nominees now to get ready.

You know Luke,

When you publish that your plan is to object to any candidate and declare them out of mainstream - it sort of waters down any actual objections you might have.

When Bush is likely to nominate an out-of-the mainstream candidate, it's just being prepared.

I think you need to re-examine your idea of mainstream.

For evidence, I offer all the voters.

A vast majority of whom support the nomination of a justice who will uphold Roe.

They haven't even talked about a replacement yet. The true colors of the patriot once again shine bright. Luke, I hope you don't consider yourself Mainstream because I would argue that you are the answer to the far rights rancid puke. Us mainstreamers wish you goofballs from both sides would shut the Fuck up.
