IMPEACH BUSH?

Everywhere I go the last couple of days, people are dropping it in casual conversation: "Bush is going to be impeached." It must be the broadening disconnect between this administration's pep rallies and the reality of war in Iraq. It must be the broadening wingspan of troubling information.

1) The Downing Street Memo
  See also: downingstreetmemo.com and afterdowningstreet.org

2) The secret air war against Iraq in 2002

It's not terribly complicated. Evidence is mounting that Bush lied to the United States Congress and the American people about the basis for going to war, and indeed that he went to war 9 months early. Did Bush undermine or violate the War Powers Clause of the United States Constitution?

Sign the petition - demand hearings. Or what the heck, go all the way. Before going that route, consider (if you must) Christopher Hitchens' take.

Me? I don't necessarily think the Democrats should go off the deep end demanding impeachment. We need our government to be constructive and to serve us. We need priorities. One of those priorities should be investigating whether the fate of 1,741 men and women was sealed before we even had the debate. I demand accountability in our nation's leadership.

Spread the word. Email. Post. Talk. Debate. This is our democracy, after all.

Tag your posts! Technorati: impeach, Bush, accountability

Make art. Take pictures. Post your photos to Flickr and tag them.

Flip on your video camera right now and rant, or sigh, act or counteract. Post it on your blog. Or email me and I'll post it here. You have a voice - use it! Learn how to vlog or podcast. Everywhere you go?

Everywhere I go, I hear different things. Sure, alot of it is stuff like, "Hippies smell" but there is serious talk too.

Mostly its about when we're gonna stop avoiding the real issue and clean out the rest of the middle east region (Syria and Iran.)

China is always a concern, but its growing energy requirements particularly troubling.

There's real discontent with the SCOTUS' refusal to address even simple questions (witness the recent split on 10 commandment cases.)

There's some local talk too. There is broad support for shutting down the MN government. Aside from "emergency services" there is a perception that we'd be better off with our own money and less "help."

I don't get the whole sore loser thing. You gotta move on folks. (hehe - move on)

One last thought here on the "damning memos." Strangely, enough us grownups don't see planning as a problem.

Dean and now this? No wonder no one takes you seriously anymore.

Anon - please sign sour posts, see the rules of engagements on the side.

Obviously we hang in different circles, no surprise there. It's not a sore loser thing, it's a defending democracy thing. Not sure why you'd defend your liar of a president. Bombing and lying is your idea of planning?

I will gladly watch the democrats spiral in to a fatal crash if they push impeachment. Downing Street memo contradite themselves. Many so called facts are proven false in the interum. All bomb done done pre-invasion was within the UN mandates and '91 cease fire agreements.

Oh one more thing why do you want to see Bush brought down and the Coalition defeated in Iraq? Is it because you want to live in world where Islamofascist rule and terorize averyone they do not like?

Dave

And no I am NOT calling you unpatriotic just inconsistant.

Bush will go down in history as a complete failure, but I doubt he'll be impeached. The Democrats in Congress aren't bloodthristy enough to get revenge for Clinton.

And there's no way the Republicans are going to do it, even if Bush made out with Osama bin Laden in front of 20 TV cameras.

A push for impeachment would be a bad idea for the Dems. There's not enough support in Congress and the public still has a bad taste in their mouths (sorry) from the last ill-conceived impeachment effort. We can't impeach every president! Best to let history do its' job and reveal the current leadership to be one of the most incompetent and bumbling administrations in history.

I agree with Tim.

We can't impeach every president.

Unless Bush commits a crime, he shouldn't be impeached.

There's enough weasel-room around lying about war that we wouldn't be able to get him on that.

Evidently he has one foot nailed to the floor.

Liberating millions of people. That's a great definition of failure.

Let's just say the jury's still out on that, Ichabod.

Yep, I'm in agreement with Luke and Tim.
Just stirrin' the pot and keepin' it hot. Mmm-mmm!
We do need to keep the pressure on, and we DO need to demand accountability.

Note to Dave:
Bush presidency != success in Iraq.

You just don't get it. Thousands of people are being killed so that a select few can reap billions in profits by stealing Iraq's oil.
Follow the money, the politics and rhetoric are all a smokescreen for robbing a region of it's resources. Defense contractors can backhand even more money to corrupt leaders as convenient wars take place. Future generations of americans are paying for it all.

Iraq success? 10,000 dead approx, 1800 Americans, and for what?
US troops hide in their compounds and only venture out in armored vehicles to get shot at, you control the oilfields nothing else.
You will be run out of there, not by Al-Qaeda but eventually the US public will tire of watching it's children come home in coffins. It's just a race to see how much oil can be pumped out first.

I never said Bush's presidncy is based on success in Iraq, yet it will be a big part. But since this blog entry was about impeachment based on the Downing Street memo's it is relevent.

Yet another of the enlighten none thinking lefty spouts off the totally wrong bumper sticker logan, it all about the oil. If the best arguement you got is based on a bumper sticker it is best to remain quiet. If it was about the oil we could have had all we wanted from Saddam, just pay him directly.

Freedom to 25 million (50 milion if you include afghanstan) is what it is about, why is it so hard to admit and celebrate.

George W. Bush should indeed be impeached. Why?

The alleged impeachable acts of President George W. Bush include:

1. Ordering and directing "first strike" war of aggression against Afghanistan causing thousands of deaths;

2. Removing the government of Afghanistan by force and installing a government of his choice;

3. Authorizing daily intrusions into Iraqi airspace and aerial attacks including attacks on alleged defense installations in Iraq which have killed hundreds of people in time of peace;

4. Authorizing, ordering and condoning attacks in Afghanistan and Iraq on civilians, civilian facilities and locations where civilian casualties are unavoidable;

5. Threatening the use of nuclear weapons and ordering preparation for their use;

6. Threatening the independence and sovereignty of Iraq by belligerently proclaiming his personal intention to change its government by force;

7. Authorizing, ordering and condoning assassinations, summary executions, murder, kidnappings, secret and other illegal detentions of individuals, torture and physical and psychological coercion of prisoners;

8. Authorizing, ordering and condoning violations of rights of individuals under the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eight Amendments to the Constitution and of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and other international protections of human rights;

9. Authorizing, directing and condoning bribery and coercion of individuals and governments to obtain his war ends;

10. Making, ordering and condoning false statements and propaganda and concealing information vital to public discussion and informed judgment to create a climate of fear and hatred and destroy opposition to his war goals.

President Bush is accused of Crimes Against Peace, War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity. No crimes are greater threats to the Constitution of the United States, the United Nation Charter, the rule of law or the future of humanity.
