Union busting

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but if you had any doubts that Northwest set out the break the mechanics union, read this cheerleading New York Times article. NWA has been planning for 18 months to crush the mechanics.

P.S.: Props to Tom at Curly Tales for scoring some love from Mother Jones. MoJo was of course the fire-breathing labor activist who helped bring you the cushy working environment you enjoy today.

Apparently it was an "open secret." I'd never heard it before, myself.

I also read that NWA's final offer was less pay then United Airline's bankruptcy wages.

Time will tell whether NWA can keep operations running smoothly enough for customers, or if they'll be forced back to the bargaining table. Someone from the union said 7-10 days should be enough time to tell if NWA's gamble worked or not.

Thanks, Luke!

The slowdown and deterioration of flight and on-time performance is just now beginning to show, though NWA has its ears plugged and eyes covered while insisting that everything is cool.

Just curious - how many of you are union employees?

Right on, sister!

As the IWW used to say, "an injury to one is an injury to all"...

Wait, so by that logic, when Lori and I "make whoopee...." ?!?

I'm cool with that. Small price to pay for being gay married to a cute union thug.

Good thing you're cute too, Desrosiers.

Do any of you ( on both sides ) Ever get tired of listening to yourself? You claim to be the rightous caring of all people. Then you read some of your crap out here and you are so entrenched in your own biased shit you are no better or worse then the nuts on the right. Both sides need to take a step back, take a deep breath, and for one day SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! After reading this Blog on and off for sometime now I truly believe if Bush's mideast policy were to bring lasting changes for the better, it would truly dissapoint you'all. And that is the really sad part about all of this.

I should say, for the record, I'm not 100% pro-union. I was glad I wasn't in the union at my previous job. It has it's pros and cons. It really depends on the industry, the union and specific workplace, I think.

Thanks for your insightful comment, Eric. Maybe you could speak up before you blow your top? Say something constructive, and/or start your own blog. We're not about to STFU, obviously - that's not the idea here.

I'm not sure how you got from the NWA strike to Bush's Mideast policy - again, speak up early and often - but I'm interested in this "lasting changes for the better" you speak of. There hasn't been any sign of that, has there? Okay, I'll grant you good things are happening and they're hammering out a constitution of some sort. Then again they can't secure the road from Baghdad to the airport, and the death toll is tragic. So the question we ask - and every patriotic American should ask: "At what cost?"

It is like a beautiful dream tinged with nightmare: first I find out that memories of cute-union-thug threesomes of whoopee have apparently been erased from my brain, then I get barked at by some vein-throbbing troll who can't figure out how to not read blogs he doesn't like.
