Of course Bush okayed the leak. It's the only thing that makes sense.

So the president used his duly given powers to declassify materials for public use. This is nothing new or really news worthy.

crushing idiocy... that's a good one.

it really just underscores that every aspect of governed life is, to some extent, subject to the P.R. whims of those in power. Need to counterspin that article exposing the makeshift rationale for invading Iraq? Declassify! Leak! It's okay - when we do it!

The credibility of the Administration is a black hole.

The administration is essentially speaking out both side of their collective mouths. Months ago saying that anyone involved in leaking the info would be axed and today saying it is entirely within the president's discretion to divulge identities of secret agents and the like. A clever way to cover their asses when the fire comes raining down while putting on a tough facade when the heat was on to find the leak.

Why do people still blindly support these people?

Talk about crushing idiocy the released document was the National Intelligence Estimate which was given a full release and press conference at the White House in July 2003. Scooter was directed to work directly with the press shortly before that time and allowed to us the document, per presidential descretion. This document is the accumulation of the U.S. and several international intelligence agencies estimates regarding the Iraq WMD. Which directly contradicts the LIES spread by Joe Wilson and others regarding the WMD question.

It did not out Valery Plame other than to show that her husband was a liar in his contention that the intelligence did not show that Saddam had WMD.

Now if you want to argue that the intel was bad, fine. However the REview did find that there was a systematic program of lies and deception by the Iraqi goverment and a long term goal of returning to WMD when possible. There is still no evidence that the president lied or that Saddam had truely come clean in the areas od WMD.

Val and Joe are the victims here? The ones with the magazine covers and book deals?

Please.

This never was an issue, and trying to turn it into one only gets the foamy mouth crowd stirred up. Banging this drum is a loser for the lefties. Just like the international terrorist call interception.

My favorite part is how your team is going to get all over the polling data and still, get their collective asses handed to them on election day. (And then be shocked, decry the results as rigged etc.)

(ignoring idiotic testosterone-induced football analogies)

We're nto talking about Val and Joe, we're talking about this Administration's doublespeak when it comes to their supposed hard line on the leak of classified information. I guess it doesn't apply to them, because they can conveniently cherrypick what they'll declassify when it has PR value for them. Surprised you righties think that's worth defending.

The press is making this look like Bush authorized the leaking of Plame's identity, and I think that's the (mis)perception looking at the headlines. Sadly that's the nature of the beast - drama sells.

And by the way, the warrantless interception of international calls is actually the warrantless interception of domestic calls. Just how much of your liberty are you true believers going to surrender to these incompetent jerks?

I really just can't believe anybody of conscience would defend the actions of this Administration. I think you're fueled more by your hatred of liberals than any desire to better this country. Get your priorities straight, guys.

So Chuck, for like the eighth time, if its illegal, why hasn't a court stopped it? Why is it that a call from a foreign land is domestic but a car is an import? Talk about blinded by hate.

No hate here - I don't think you followed the link above:

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales left open the possibility yesterday that President Bush could order warrantless wiretaps on telephone calls occurring solely within the United States -- a move that would dramatically expand the reach of a controversial National Security Agency surveillance program.

Chuck,

And while that may be true, what does it have to do with international calling?
