Benedict? The man shoulda just confronted his inner soul and named himself Pope Sidious I: maybe Ian McDiarmid can play him in the biopic! (which will hopefully be made within a couple years since at age 78 he's bound to peg out soon)

Unfortunately Cardinal Sin is dying, but he's still a year younger than Ratzinger!

"Panzer Pope" is much more culturally sensitive than "Devout Kraut", which is what I would have used.

Heh. I was thinking of the Minneapolis band, not the actual cardinal.

Wow. Our very first pretty butterfly! I knew it would happen!

What can I say.

The new pope thread starts with invoking Godwin.

Unreal. Calls act you folks are.

Why is it I always hear solemn benedictine monks chanting in the background of Censored's comments?

Settle down "Censored". I don't think you can call it invoking Godwin when you're talking about someone who was actually a member of the Hitler Youth.

Hey everybody, you know you want to go read what Herr Ratz has to say about "The Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church and in the World." It's a swell read.

Here's the actual link to "The Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church and in the World."

john

The Pope was a member of the Hitler Youth when it was compulsory, he was also consripted at 16. These were actions he was forced to undertake. On the other hand the man has devoted the rest of his life to serving the church (this by choice.) Its obvious which he should be known for.

Mark,

Not benedictine, SJ.

well it seems that the catholic church is gonna continue in the same fascist and reactionary tradition, well, bad for you, catholics in the world, you're stuck in the middle ages.
By the way, i was catholic but then chose to not have any religion(when i had enough reason), i think religions instead of joining people, spares them
