So they won...

...but I'm not bitter.

P.S. On a more serious note, as Josh Marshall and Chris note, there are good reasons not to be bitter, at least not against the "red states" ("red people", maybe). Even in Texas, 38% of the people voted for Kerry. Add seven points that that and Texas is looking like a swing state! I'll have more later this week about what I think the Democrats need to do to remain competitive in the Electoral College.

P.P.S. I love how the Republicans gave us the respectable color, blue. In every other country the liberal/left party is represented by the color red, and the conservative/right party by blue. Blue: stodgy, rational. Red: radical, crazy. And if you think about it, that fits the American scene pretty well right now!

Re: Fuck the South, I always thought it was a tad lily-livered to leave cuss-screeds like that unsigned. Anyone know who wrote it? David Mamet? Chris Rock?

According to Whois, the domain was registered by Nick Jehlen. That doesn't mean he wrote it though.

I saw ***k the South yesterday. I read it with guilty pleasure. But I really don't think it's productive to get that level of vitriol going against, say, a place. It's especially dangerous when there is a good chunk of Democratic support in much of Redland. Are those people stupid too? Anyway, it's pretty hard to avoid the fact that our message was mush this time around.

Our arguments are better. The facts won't go away. Calling people too stupid to buy whatever it is your are selling is always a bad idea. If we continue to do that, it won't matter how much our policies make sense for a cleaner, more profitable, more humane society. People will just spit on the messenger the way we are spitting on them now.

When we howl like that, we just pound the nail in our own coffins. It would be better if we just got down to the quiet business of tuning our infrastructure to win the next time out. We need to quietly re-commit ourselves to kicking ass. It isn't the Repubs fault we lost.

Go ahead and be bitter fella's..you are doomed as doomed can be!

Kerry hints at 2008 run...It's like a nightmare you just can't wake from isn't it?

Bah. I don't think the Dems would give Kerry another chance to run. I don't think he'd get the nomination.

I agree, Chris. This sort of stuff is a guilty fantasy. It's not going to happen. We have to remember that even in the reddest states, 40% of the people voted for Kerry!

Think about it: in Texas, 38% voted for Kerry. If we can get that up to 45%, well, shit, Texas is a swing state.
