U.S. MIlitary rounding up the wives of suspected insurgents

No good can possibly come of this:
Documents Show Army Seized Wives As Tactic

The U.S. Army in Iraq has at least twice seized and jailed the wives of suspected insurgents in hopes of "leveraging" their husbands into surrender, U.S. military documents show.

In one case, a secretive task force locked up the young mother of a nursing baby, a U.S. intelligence officer reported. In the case of a second detainee, one American colonel suggested to another that they catch her husband by tacking a note to the family's door telling him "to come get his wife."

Isn't that what Saddam did? Just asking.

If they are helping terrorists then I have no heartache with rolling them up in the fashion that puts the most pressure on the cell.

I don't have a moral objection to arresting women. I think of them as equal to men. If they are helping make bombs or kill soldiers then they are fair game.

I don't have a problem with questioning the wives about the husbands either. (Might even be giving them a chance to save the life of her husband.)

I do have a problem with compelling them to testify but that's different.

This article seems to show a prejudice that somehow "mere woman" couldn't be involved in anything as complicated as terrorism.

We know that's false.

The comparisons to Saddam are just goofy. The wives weren't killed or raped, nor were the children imprisioned and tortured. Nor was the whole family taken in for execution because of political unreliability.

Instead one person, suspected to have material knowledge of terrorists and terrorist operations was detained and questioned.

Really seems to be a non-story.

I don't have an issue with arresting women suspected of crimes, however, arresting a woman without significant evidence to charge her of a crime as a tactic to bring the husband in is just plain wrong. We wouldn't stand for that here, nor should we.

And though Saddam has done worse, the notion of tacking a note to the family's door telling the husband to "come get his wife" stinks of something he might do as well.

For a little perspective. Be sure to read the testimony of Saddam's victims.

The patented "We're not as bad as a power-mad, murderous dictator" defense.

Violating the Geneva Conventions is wrong and immoral. Period.

As opposed to the "I can't objectively process differences in cercumstance and am sticking with the meme" school of thought?

If you really think there's no differnece, then ask yourself, which would you rather be incarcerated by? Still no difference?

Sure there's a difference. I hold the US to a higher standard than you. I'm more proud of my country than you are, and I expect more of it.

You bed-wetters are willing to trade away everything that makes the US righteous because you're scared of a guy who hides in a cave. We faced down the Soviet Union without kidnapping their wives. I think we can handle Osama. And don't even get me started on how fucked up the Amazing Iraqi Adventure is.

These are wives of men expected of killing Soldiers,Men,Woman, and Children. Marko, if this was happening in the US you don't think our govt. would have his wife in custody, pumping her for any info or clues or hopes that he would try to contact her? I sure the hell hope they would. I guess us bed-wetters understand that this conflict is about a hell of alot more than a man in a cave. if bringing these scumbags wives in helps in capturing them it's all good. The Patriot is more concerned about How we capture murders and how there treated once we capture them.
