Prosecutor Will Step Down From Lobbyist Case

WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 — The investigation of Jack Abramoff, the disgraced Republican lobbyist, took a surprising new turn on Thursday when the Justice Department said the chief prosecutor in the inquiry would step down next week because he had been nominated to a federal judgeship by President Bush.

Is it possible to drown in irony? I mean, come on...in a payola scandal, promoting the prosecutor off the case? Wow.

I'm sure that he reached right down and plucked out this troublemaker, ensuring he'll make this problem go away by giving him lots more responsibility.

Brilliant!

Yeah, duh Chris. I don't know why you'd ever think something like that. Don't you know that Bush's shit doesn't stink?

This could be news if one where to believe that this prosecuter was the only one and worked in a vacumm. More likely he was the head of the fairly large TEAM that was working on the presecution and nary a step will be lost in his absense.

Of course if the prosecutor felt that his promotion would jeopardize the case he could take a pass on the judgeship. Or given the disgraceful action of the senate democrats blocking qualified judges, he will still be on the case a couple years from now.
