Civility lessons from John Hinderaker, Esq.

Last month, I used some foul language in a highly negative reaction to John Hinderaker's comment that "the Left" had "lined up behind the terrorists." Some people thought that showed immaturity on my part. Now we get to see how Mr. Hinderaker feels about that sort of language.

MN Politics Guru sent Mr. Hinderaker a note questioning a post he did about "Jeff Gannon." Hinderaker's reply was a model of civility:

You dumb shit, he didn't get access using a fake name, he used his real name. You lefties' concern for White House security is really touching, but you know what, you stupid asshole, I think the Secret Service has it covered. Go crawl back into your hole, you stupid left-wing shithead. And don't bother us anymore. You have to have an IQ over 50 to correspond with us. You don't qualify, you stupid shit.

Do they teach you how to write so eloquently at Harvard? Clearly, I need to take lessons.

Whoa, nice!
That post has apparently been removed though -- any details on why? Lawyer pressure or (very legitimate) fear of lawyerly retaliation?

Of course, whenever I see mention of how much Power Line hates the left, I have to whip out this video clip proving it:

The post is still there, but it looks like they must have changed the title (blogger's links reflect the title of the post). Try this.

[I updated the link in Luke's post.]

Can't we all just get high and love one another?
Seriously, I thought the virulent partisanship might die down after the election, but lately it's getting nasty and personal. And even physical.

Is civility and thoughtful discussion a radical notion in the age of blog?

Golly, gee, well Hindracker even says it, so it must be true:

"Jeff Gannon and Karl Rove are secretly lovers! I'm not making this up"

Plain and simple, you guys are idiots if you think this "Hinderaker" email is real.

Yah, I'm the guru a liar.

You guys are making me ever more confident about the 2006 elections.

Oops.
I mean to say I think the Guru is Lying.

Ichabod, if the Guru is lying, than he's an idiot... I wouldn't think that attributing false e-mails to a lawyer would be terribly bright, especially someone as angst-ridden as Hindrocket.

So, Ichabod. On what basis do you say that? None? Yeah, I thought as much.

I would imagine that if the email were fake, Mr Hinderaker would have said so. Surely he has seen it; both Kos and Atrios have blogged this. And he has certainly received numerous emails about this.

But he didn't. If its fake, he's not doing a very good job of defending himself!

Hinderaker admits he sent the offensive emailBravo to him for standing up and admitting his error, and to Minnesota Guru for not letting it slide.

Still, what a hunk of nastiness. Equally nasty, is the Daily Kossers who immediately mounted a campaign to swamp his law firm with calls, and more, over the email. Another example showing things are out of hand and out of proportion.

it's much harder to do something useful with that angerI like to pummel my own scrotum.

I stand corrected. I also posted an apology on the Guru's Blog.

Now, who is going to apologize to Hinderaker's Secretary?

At 9:12 PM, Blogger Chuck Olsen said...

We at New Patriot condone doing many things to secretaries, but swamping is not one of them.

I mean like, giving them flowers and stuff. Especially boy secretaries.

I agree Jonathan. You don't have to apologize for someone elses Idiocy.

I have a question: I'm an interested conservative bystander who reads lots of blogs from all over the political map to keep myself informed. Why is it that conservatives line up behind Bin Laden and other terrorists and leave it to the moderates and liberals to fight terrorism, particularly home-grown terrorism practiced by stupid bigots?

The exchange above from "Ichabod" is representative of a real problem on the left these days. He flat-out accuses someone else of being a liar. He has ZERO evidence for his claim. When it's pointed out that he's full of it, he offers a lame apology, which is promptly accepted and everyone continues on as if nothing ever happened.

Why? Someone who lies once will lie again. And don't kid yourself - it was a lie, not a "mistake" or misspeaking. I've seen conservatives pull this same trick over and over - why shouldn't they, since it seems to work so well? If one lie is caught, simply offer a weak apology and move right on to the next lie.

Credibility comes from speaking the truth consistently. Lack of credibility comes from lying. People who lie are not credible. And attempting debate or discussion with someone who possesses no credibility is a waste of time.
