I'd intended to post this days ago...the event is happening TONIGHT in St. Paul. My bad.

Prospects for Progress in a Polarized World: A Conversation with David Brooks
David Brooks — New York Times Op-Ed columnist, and frequent commentator for NPR and PBS' News Hour with Jim Lehrer — comes to St. Paul for a savvy conversation about present-day politics and foreign affairs.
Tickets are $20; free for students with valid ID. To register for this event, go to the National Institute of Health Policy Web site, www.nihp.org. Minnesota Public Radio members should call 651-962-4613 for reservations and discounts.
Sadly I will be unable to attend.

Incidentally, another event I'll be missing tonight is the Minnesota Rollergirls Fundraiser & Recruiting Party at the Turf Club. Featuring: arm wrestling; costume contest; music by the Spittin' Cobras; the Blame; Landing Gear. Proceeds to Benefit the Greater Mpls. Crisis Nursery. $6/$4 in rollerderby costume. 9:00 pm
David Brooks will be there? Is there going to be a pie-ing?
I wonder if St. Thomas' liberal students are as outraged at the prospect of having an ultra-conservative speaker on campus as U of M's conservatives were over Michael Moore. David Brooks, after all, is the guy who dismissed criticism of neo-conservatism as nothing more than anti-Semitism.
Seriously, I'm wondering about the pie-ing. I'd wanted to go as I was curious to see how his talk would be received, and what kind of questions might be asked during the Q&A portion.
The diference between David Brooks and Michael Moore can be discerned by the fact that Brooks' readers are driven to contemplation while Moore's find themselves at a loss to do anything more intelligent than throw pies.
The students of the U were likely upset at the prospect of having their intelligence insulted by the mere presence of Moore on their campus.
Swiftee-
The same way patrons of this blog get annoyed when your presence insults THEIR intelligence?
There is reality, and then there is the New patriot.
Anonymous, you'll have to forgive us for not considering The Weekly Standard to be a reflection of reality.
Did anyone actually go to this? I wanted to. I'd never heard Brooks' anti-neocon = anti-Semitism comment, but in general I find him to be a reasonable conservative. I always enjoy Shields and Brooks on Newshour. He's actually capable of admitting when his side his wrong, once in awhile, and doesn't always try to sugarcoat, say - Iraq.
