Why people vote for independents

Via Crooks and Liars - which party has the most scandals?

I'm sorry, but that's not a fruitful conversation. This clip alone is enough to make a voter want to flip off the TV and tune out of the whole political process.

There are perverted and otherwise unhealthy people in all walks of life, of all political stripes. When the media smells anything like a sex scandal, they get out the HYPE-O-METER and take over the airwaves, brushing aside criticism of the administration's performance in Iraq, for example. The Republican coverup may end up being the more relevant story. It's the story of a Republican party that protects their own first, the nation's children second.

A Republican 'perfect storm'? We'll see...

LOCAL CONNECTIONS VIA MN PUBLIUS:
Mark Kennedy has $3000 from Mark Foley in the coffers, and Michele Bachmann is in for $25k from the coverup comrades. Minnesota voters (and bloggers) will be watching for these candidates to do the right thing and return tainted funds.

This type of crap is why the two party system is a failure. The problem right now though is that voting independant does nothing to adress the problem. Real electoral reform is needed for that, and Democrats will be better to help that become a reality than the GOP. If the IP Party really cared about electoral reform we wouldn't only hear from them during the election cycle when they think they can change things by a couple of token candidates. The problem is NO ONE is really addressing the real problems and "Independent" candidates bring no answers, and if they take votes away from Democrats (who some are working for the proper electoral reforms) then they are part of the problem. Want to make a step in the right direction, vote Democrat and vote and work for IRV.

What I find most interesting about this is the number of right-wing homosexuals now showing up in the news. Here you have the republican party, constantly gay-bashing, and suddenly, whoops? There are gay republican congressmen who were previously in the closet? No one seems to have hit on this yet - but it is another hypocrisy that should prove to be the republican’s undoing.
