Bottom Line: They'd get off on a murder charge because they're bonkers

More evidence that the assumptions we once shared about the beauty of the American Way, our noble systems of checks and balances, are being strangled to death by the Christian Right was revealed on Saturday. Phyllis Schlafly and crew called for the Impeachment of Justice Kennedy during a conference called Confronting The Judicial War On Faith. Kennedy evidently practices law on for the dark side, as in he "...upholds Marxist, Leninist, satanic principles drawn from foreign law." Oh Sweet Jesus, not foreign law.

And you know it's bad when one of the speakers calls for Stalin's final solution: "No Man. No Problem," and the little sheep applaud.

These people are straight up insane.

Phyllis Schlafly is a nut.

But that doesn't make upholding foreign law in the US a good idea.

There are alot of people unhappy with that decision (Lawrence vs. Texas) besides her, and to color them all with the same brush is nonsense.

I believe that the decision is correct, but for the wrong reasons. (foreign law being one of them.)

Well, since we are only a couple hundred years old, most of the law here was foreign once upon a time. Law is law. If it's fundamentally sound, does it really matter where it came from?

But the real point is that disgraceful lawyer quoting Stalin's final solution.

Again, Phyllis Schlafly is a nut.

If a foreign law is fundementally sound, then it should be adopted by our legislature in emulation of the source.

That is the process that we have for incorporating the best ideas of the rest of the world. To impose them by judicial fiat, is to vacate that process and worse, to have it happen in the SCOTUS leaves it without check or balance.

I don't think it is was correct in Lawrence vs. Texas, and I wouldn't think it correct if a Justice cited Canon law to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

Its not the result I object to, its the method.

Baby steps are fun.
