Confidence In GOP Is At New Low in Poll
Public confidence in GOP governance has plunged to the lowest levels of the Bush presidency, with Americans saying by wide margins that they now trust Democrats more than Republicans to deal with Iraq, the economy, immigration and other issues, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll that underscores the GOP's fragile grip on power six months before the midterm elections.

The Republican tent is shrinking by the minute - the Latinos have surely left the building. (Gee, wonder why?) But Democrats need to do a much better job of getting their positive agenda out to people. Republicans have a veneer of shiny-happy positivity. It rings false, and sometimes has an underside of hatred and fear, but the image is positive. Democrats are seen as doom and gloom, I think. They're about criticism, and reality. That's good, but it needs to be paired with inspiration. Democrats need to speak to peoples hearts, not just their minds.

Poll: Clinton outperformed Bush

Understandably, Clinton nostalgia goes mainstream. You don't hear much about Nixon nostalgia, do you? I'm future-nostalgic for 2006 and 2008, when we can thow out the cronies and get this country back on track.

Rove will be indicted

Karl Rove has informed his colleagues in the White House that he will be indicted and will resign when the news goes public.

In addition to the Plame affair, Rove's name has been linked to Abramoff's visits to the White House.

Rove has an unbelievable string of reprehensible political tactics that have resulted in victories of one kind or another. Push polling, savage attacks and the use of wedge issues to ratchet up the rancor of public discourse are all Rove hallmarks.

We have Rove to thank for some, maybe a lot, of the bitterness of our public discussions, the cronyism over competence currently infecting our public institutions, the relentless spin-infused ideological purity with which this adminsitration has painted its stupidest moments.

And to that, all I have to say is: Good riddance.

A few here have suggested that maybe we need to do this sort of data mining to stay ahead of terrorist attacks. Me? I don't want the NSA, especially under the strongarm of this administration, tracking who I talk to or what I'm doing. I have a hunch most Americans feel the same way.

The government can't even do a competent job protecting us via traditional routes - why would I trust them with a massive invasion of privacy?

Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, creator of the influential lefty blog Daily Kos, has co-written a new book called Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-powered Politics. Here's a bit of dark video from his Q&A at Drinking Liberally, just a couple blocks from my house at the 331 Club.

The Power Liberal has a roundup of Zúniga's visit. "The Wege" was nearly the subject of an interview, but my tape and battery simultaneously ran out. I suspect the NSA is to blame.
